GENERAL INFORMATION:
TABC operates two kinds of camps. The FUNDAMENTAL CAMP is primarily for campers in junior high and below.
If you child is going into high school next school year, TABC suggests talking to your child’s coach about
which camp to attend.
Our POSITION CAMPS are for players who have had at least some junior varsity playing experience and who
would like to concentrate on specific players positions. TABC welcomes entire teams to attend this camp but
also encourages individual players to participate in these camps as well. Again, if you are unsure which
camp to attend, TABC recommends consulting your player’s coach.
At the Camp of Champs, campers who attend the fundamentals session will get intensive
instruction in the basic skills of shooting, passing, ball handling, playing defense plus hours and hours
of various competitions and team play. Older campers taking part in our position camp will also find
many opportun-
ities for competitive play as well as emphasis on individual offensive and defensive skills specific
to his/her desired positions.
A TYPICAL DAY AT CAMP:
Participants in the TABC Camp of Champs do not take time out for movies, swimming, or
field trips. Unless they are eating or sleeping they’re in the gym working hard! A day at the Camp
of Champs begins at 8 AM and usually doesn’t end until 9 or 10 in the evening (except on the last day of
camp). Overnight campers must be dressed and ready for breakfast by 7 AM so that work can being on
schedule. Parents who wish to bring their campers to camp each day should provide for their own breakfast
and have them there ready to go to work by 8 each morning.
TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION:
The parent must make his/her child’s own travel arrangements to and from camp. TABC will provide
transportation to and from the Austin Bergstrom airport for $25 for both ways and $15 one way. Notification
and payment must be received in our office no later than two (2) weeks before the child’s camp begins if
transportation will be required from and to the airport.
ABOUT OUR CAMPS AND STAFF:
The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) is an organization comprised of almost 3000
basketball coaches on both the high school and junior high levels. We held our first camp in the summer
of 1986 and since then our reputation has grown as one of the most unique and well-run basketball camps in
the state. This year our camps will be held on the beautiful campus of Southwestern University in
Georgetown. The university offers gym anddorm facilities that are state-of-the-art and offer all campers
an extremely positive camping experience. All TABC camps emphasize hard work in a positive environment.
Our coach-to-camper ratio does not exceed 10:1 which ensures that each player gets the same kind of individual
attention that he/she would get on their own home court. Each of our camps will have a limited enrollment
so register early to avoid disappointment. The Camp of Champs coaching staff is made up exclusively of TABC
member coaches who direct some of the top high school programs in the state. In most cases, coaches will
return for several years to work because they love the kids and the kids love them! No coach is hired
without a completed application and a thorough check done on his/her qualifications. Overseeing the
girls camp this year will be Kyle Short, girls varsity coach at Spearman, and Wayne Johnson, who heads
up the girls program at Goldthwaite. Directing the boys camps this year will be Coach Stan Leech of Boerne
High School and his assistant, Jon Youngblood of Newman Smith HS in Carrollton.
